The sonde fell inside the Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar. Part of that land is operated by the City of San Diego, CA as a landfill. It landed 0.5 km east of the main road into the landfill. I suspect the attendant at the entrance has never been asked for permission to retrieve a radiosonde. She said I should ask at the office. I told a supervisor how I reprogram them with Mount Carmel High School Amateur Radio Club students (W6SUN), and they relaunch them on weather balloons. He was curious and offered to hike with me to get it.
