Radiosonde U3470070 recovered by T-800
Wow what a challenge! We were intrigued as to why this sonde failed early at a peak of 36,778’ ft. After hiking across the field and finding a way around a massive bamboo forest, was able to (finally) spot the balloon in the top of the bamboo at the edge next to the creek. It took all my poles and a lot of luck to finally snag and pull it down. While doing so the string broke and the sonde fell into the creek! After a mad dash downstream to catch it (resulting in a show full of water), I was able to finally get the balloon and dereeler out of the shoots. After some investigating, it looks like the balloon popped a hole in the top of it, causing the premature failure. Also of note, the dereeler only unwound about 10’. The side of the sonde says “Greeting Earthling”. Will post more details and photos on the FB page when I get home.
