Perhaps the most memorable retrieval to date. Upon arriving at the landing site I found the farmers were combining the beans. The wife gave me permission to go retrieve the sonde. I had a TTGO lock on the sonde and could hear it on 404mhz. I could see the combine had just made a pass in the area of the sonde and was headed on down the field. When I arrived using Sonde Go app the last location of the sonde was where the combine had just been and all that was left were a few scattered bits of latex strewn around. The oddity was that the signal was still being reported by my radio which left me dumbfounded. I could not see the sonde in the trees nearby. On the next pass of the combine the driver pulls over from the task at hand, opens the door and says,.."Is this what you are looking for?",.. as he presents the balloon and sonde in outstretched arms. He had seen it before the combine ingested it, and had got out and picked most of it up. A great quick conversation transpired,.. then he and I both got on our way.
